Since
its founding in the 1890's, the Katy Texas area has
been dedicated to a quality of life unsurpassed in
this part of Texas.
One of the reasons people love the Katy area is
the pleasant subtropical climate. Situated on
the coastal plains of Texas, with relative proximity
to the Gulf of Mexico, moderate summer and winter
low temperature extremes, our winters are mild and
our summers warm and humid. Average daily high
temperature in the summer is in the low 90's and
daily high temperatures in winter average 65
degrees. Gulf winds make summer nights pleasant and
snowfall is rare.
Katy, Texas is uniquely located within three
counties, Fort Bend County, Harris County and Waller

With widespread residential development, there is
a large selection throughout the area to live in a
safe and secure neighborhood. Housing options range

Fun Katy Texas Facts
- In the
beginning Katy was only a wide open prairie, the
hunting ground of the Karankawa Indian tribes,
the winter feeding grounds of great herds of
buffalo and large flocks of wild ducks, geese,
sandhill and whooping cranes, and numerous other
game birds, and home to longhorn cattle, deer,
and wolves.

Island, for Cane Island Creek that runs through
it, was in 1872.

along I-10, the other is emerging along the
Grand Parkway.

first emperor of China.

Houston metro area and one of the
fastest-growing in the state. Projections show a
steady upswing throughout this decade, with

jointly purchased the Blakely Ranch in 1937.
Telephone service
in the Katy area is determined by a decision dating
back to the 1930's. Local telephone was not
available in the Katy area back then, so the local
farmers invested as a group and had their own
telephone service installed. AT&T (then
Southwestern Bell) did not offer service at the time
with the dividing line between SBC and the local
farmers based on a fence line because Mason road
did not exist.
The Public Utility Commission of
Texas was established and those fence posts became
the dividing line between telephone companies. Today
any competitive telephone company can offer service
in any telephone companies service area location,
it's up to that company where they offer service.
